OPENING OF THE SEASON The Auckland Boxing Association's season will <bo opened with a bout that promises to be a first-class introduction to a very interesting series of contests. Young" Gildo, the popular Filipino, who has the ability to make all his contests attractive, will be opposed by Jack Jarvis, the New Zealand lightweight champion, on April 5. Jfc is the general opinion that 110 better bout could have been selected to open a. season that in every way promises to be outstanding one. The W:i.;,ato Boxing Association will commence 'Activities with a bout at Hamilton on April 12 between Gildo find Archie Hughes. Gildo, in this contest, will be meeting an opponent of proven abilitv, a crafty and cunning boxer who wilt certainly test tho Filipino. Billy Martin, the clever Australian welter-weight, will be opposed by an opponent yet to be selected on April ]'J. This attractive fighter will be kent busy this season, as the tentative list of- importations includes a lumber of first-class welter-weights, as fi e!l as feather-weights and lightheights. , i'r. J. Kinnear, chairman of the Auckland Boxing Association, will leave tor Australia to-day. He will *nake_ an effort to import a number of Prominent fighters, including Bill Pluto, Bick Humphries, Alf. Blatcli, Herb, ■"'■ shop and Jimmv Purcell. Also, it is rnore than probable that "Spider" j'oach and Mickey Miller, two of the nest feather-weights in Australia, will coming to Auckland.
