NORTHCOTE INTERESTS
HARBOUR BRIDGE PROJECT Replying to the request that an endeavour be made to expedite the early presentation by the Auckland City Council of the report regarding the Auckland harbour bridge scheme, the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, informed the Northcote Borough Council last night that it was not possible for him to do anything to expedite matters at the present stage. It was for the people of Auckland and surrounding districts to decide what they wanted, and then approach the Government to see what assistance could be obtained in furtherance of the project decided upon. Mr. E. C. Fowler was appointed to represent Northcote on the deputation to the City Council requesting support for the construction of the harbour bridge as a national undertaking. The waterworks engineer reported that 3,883.000 gallons of water had been used for the month of February, and that the surface of Lako Ptipuko had fallen six inches during that period to 4ft. Sin. below high tide mark. The use of the Stafford Road reserve was granted during tho football season on alternate Saturdays to tho Rugby and League codes.
