NEW ZEALAND TEAM
N. GALLICHAN INCLUDED REQUEST TO SELECTORS SLOW BOWLER NECESSARY [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] CIIRJSTCHUHC'ir, Tuesday X. Gallichan, the Manawatu and Wellington representative left-hand slow bowler, has been added to the New Zealantl team which will leave for its tour of England from Wellington next Saturday. 'J'he addition of 111 is player to the I I men already chosen was made by the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-day with the concurrence of the New Zealand selectors on the recommendation of the manager, captain and vice-cap-tain of the New Zealand team. The announcement was made yesterday by .Mr. A. T. Donnelly, chairman of the management committee of the council, who said that in the afternoon a telegram had been received from AI. L. Page, captain of the New Zealand team, H. 0. Vivian, vice-captain, and Mr. T. C. Lowry, manager, all of whom had had great experience of English cricket conditions.
The telegram read as follows: —''We are unanimously of the opinion that the team as at present constituted is definitely short of slow bowling for such a long tour and we suggest the inclusion of Gallichan as an additional man if possible.-—Page, Vivian, Lowry."
With the concurrence of tho New Zealand selectors, said Mr. Donnelly, the management committee had agreed to the request and Gallichan had been asked to join the team for England.
Gallichan is a good all-round player win? should materially strengthen the side. He gave an impressive showing in the Auckland-Wellington Rlunket Shield match at Eden I'ark in February, and it came as a surprise to many after his fine bowling in this match that he was overlooked by the selectors, lie has had outstanding performances in minor and inter-provincial cricket for a number of years, and he previously represented New Zealand against V. V. Richardson's Australian team in 1927-28.
