HEAVY STATE DEPOSITS REDUCED BANK HOLDINGS NEW FORM OF ADVANCES [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday The Reserve Bank return, for the week ended Monday, March 8, was gazetted to-night. The statement is balanced at £31,363,881, or £132,777 less than at the closo of tho previous week. Tho two principal movements on tho liabilities sido practically cancel one another out. An increase of £2,414,895 in tho level of State deposits is more than balanced by a fall of £2,806,456 in the deposits of tho trading banks. Expiry of the final dato for tho payment of income tax without penalty has probably contributed to both moves. The note issue, after a steady decrease since the Christmas period peak, has risen by £305,410, tho approach of the Easter holidays perhaps inspiring an early demand for cash currency. Tho sterling exchange reserve is £215,942 higher in value than it was a week before. Advances to tho Dairy Industry Account aro £429,031 lower. A new item appears in the shape of advances to tho value of £IOO,OOO, other than to the State or to State departments. Other assets aro £20,496 greater in value.
