The weather is likelv to be still cold and changeable with showers at times in most districts heavy and with some hail on parts of the east coast; mainly fair on the west coast of the South Island, but occag. i ional showers arc still probable.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FOEEOAST COLD AND CHANGEABLE The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the follow ing special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong southwesterly winds of gale force at times in a few exposed positions. Weather ig likely to be cold and changeable, with occasional showers in most parts'. Seas rough on the west coast and moderate on the east. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER ' Auckland.—The weather in Auckland yesterday was dull and unsettled with heavy rain in the morning and lighter showers in the alteriSoon. A moderate to fresh south-westerly wind blew during the day, but died away in the evening .when there were further light showers. The barometer fell early in the afternoon, but began to rise aeain in the eveniug. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 65 degrees. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.TWn Midnight, Wednesday .. 29.70in| was dull and wet in the! morning, but it cleared in the afternoon. A cold, squally southerly wind prevailed. The minimum temperature on Wednesday night was 43 grees and the maximum yesterday was 52.6 degrees. Christchurch. —A very strong southwest wind blew during the heavily overcast morning, but the sun shone most of the afternoon. Nevertheless the maximum temperature during the day was 54 degrees. The barometer rose slowly all day, registering 29.85 inches at 7.30 p.m. Dunedin.—After being cold and wet in the morning, the weather in Dunedin improved during the afternoon, the sun breaking through about midday. A strong south-westerly breew kept the temperature down to 52 degrees, but the barometer commenced to rise slowly and the reading last uight was 29.82 inches.
