GROUP OF PLASTER CASTS • x . ■ 1 1 ■ ■" GIFT TO AUCKLAND MUSEUM A valuable collection of plaster casts of ancient Maori wood carvings lias reached the Auckland War Memorial Museum from the British Museum. They are replicas of the originals which are housed there, and, according to the acting-director of the Auckland museum, Mr. A. W. B. Powell, are magnificent specimens which should arouse a great deal of interest "There are about 20 casts in all," said Mr. Powell, "and they comprise samples of Maori earrings, tikis, fine feather boxes and two big canoe stern posts sft. long." The thanks for the collection must go to the former Governor-General of New Zealand, Lord Bledisloe, who was responsible for all the arrangements, continued Mr. Powell. It was he who suggested that an exchange could perhaps be made with the Dominion, and he approached the British Museum authorities in this connection. -
