LARGE APPROPRIATIONS CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME LOWER HOUSE APPROVES (Received March 7, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON March f> The House of Representatives to-day passed the Naval Supply Bill after defeating an amendment to request President Roosevelt to call a Disarmament Conference with representatives of Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Italy and Russia to "halt the mad naval race." The amendment is to be submitted again in tho form of a resolution later.

The bill provides for the appropriation of 130,000,000 dollars to complete the construction of a number of vessels, including two battleships, 11 cruisers, 48 destroyers, 17 submarines, and, one of 29,186,000 dollars for aircraft construction, which will give the Navy 397 new aeroplanes by June, 1938. The measure now goes to the Senate.
