Exhaustive tests of bulk samples of Sylvia ore as carried out by Minerals Separation, Limited, of Melbourne, world rccoKnised authorities on oil flotation, have definitely proved that high percentages of recovery in gold, silver, lead, zinc and copper can be obtained from the Sylvia ore. As illustrating (he wonderful results being achieved under oil flotation methods, the following quotation (see National Geographic Magazine, May, 1030), in reference to the excellent profits- being made by the Utah Copper Company. U.S.A.. from its low grade complex ore under oil flotation methods, is of interest:— "It seems paradoxical, but it is a fact, that the heavier mineral particles float to the top and aro skimmed off while the lighter rock particles sink and are drawn off at the bottom. . . . The ore I saw treated is of low prrade averaging 1 per cent of copper, l-10th oz. silver and l-100th oz. gold to the ton." THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE ORE OF THIS MINE IS CONSEQUENTLY APPROXIMATELY ONLY 12/ PER TON. NEW ZEALAND CURRENCY. The huge and open cut ore bodies in this rase, of course, permit or exceptionally low costs in the winning of the ore; nevertheless, the cost of the after-processes of grinding and oil flotation and smelting has still to be met out of this figure and an excellent profit still remains. THE SYLVIA MINE HAS A NICE WORKABLE LODE AVERAGING AT LEAST 5 FEET IN WIDTH AND A LENGTH OF APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET AND THE VALUE OF ITS ORE IS ALMOST TWENTY TIMES GREATER THAN THE ORE REFERRED TO.
