SPEED TRIALS TO-MORROW attempts at class records In conjunction with the annual speed trials to be conducted over a flying mile at Muriwai Beach by the New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers' Association tomorrow morning, attempts also will be made to lower the New Zealand class records over the same distance. These are at present held as follows:
750 c.c.—Austin (Seabrook, Fowlds, Limited), 90.15 m.p.h. 1100 c.c. —Riley (Dexter Motors), 86.12 m.p.h. 1500 c.c. —Bugatti (C. Edwards), 75 m.p.h. 2000 c.c.—Miller (G. Mathieson), " 76.27 m.p.h. 5000 c.c. —30-98 Vauxhal! (C. Kinby), 84.91 m.p.h.
Jf the beach is in good order, both the Austin, which is now owned and driven by Mr. G. Smith, and the Bi!ey should break their class records. Both cars did well over 90 miles an hour at the sports gathering at Muriwai Beach a few weeks ago. In the three to five litre class it is expected that Mr. F. Grower's V 8 Ford will put up a good showing. Special electric radio timing apparatus is to be used for timing the speed trials, thus ensuring accurate recording to the decimal of a mile_ an hour. T)rivers who achieve over 75 miles an hour will he awarded the Hepolite wings. Four races for cups donated for annual competition will be decided during the afternoon. Officials for the day are: —Starter, Mr. C. Allen; steward, Mr. J. Harley; lap Mr. P. Contts; stewards, Messrs. E. Spiers, .T. Bollard, G. Jones, J. Johnson and Kent; judge. Mr. G. Henning; timekeeper and flags, Mr. H. J. Butcher and Mr. T. Cooper; handicapper, Mr. M. Grierson.
