PRESIDENTS INSTALLED r- . MEDICAL INSTITUTE'S YEAR LODGE ANNIVERSARY At the fortnightly meeting of the Light of Mantikau Lodge. U.A.0.U., P.A. Bro. Large presided over a large attendance. Remits for the Grand Lodge meeting were fully discussed, after they had been explained by a special committee, consisting of J.I.- • Bro. Johnson, P.S. Bro. Wells, P.D.I. Bro. Stone and the D.P. elect, Bro. Pavis. The recommendations of the members were then x jasse d ® lodge delegate. The District President wrote reminding the lodge of the district installation and asked for a full muster of members. Several visitors were in attendance. After the lodge business closed, many interesting games of bowls, quoits, etc., were played. Tho annual meeting of the general committee of the Auckland united Friendly Societies' Medical Institute was attended by a large number ot delegates. The . report for 1936 showed that membership had increased by' fll7 members, making a total of 3720 from 66 lodges and branches, creating a new record. Four new lodges had affiliated during.the vear. The accounts disclosed that a total of £3424 had been collected and paid to the medical officers, being £sll more than in the previous year. An analysis of the administrative expenses showed thnt these had wen. j operated economically, keeping within the revenue derived from levies, and leaving a small margin to be carried forward. Thanks were due to the medical officers for tho manner in winch; they had carried out their duties. j>ix new appointments had been made, thus replacing recent resignations, there now being 26 medical officers. Thanks were expressed to the secretaries of lodges and also to the secretary of the institute, B:ro. W. H. McCombie. Jhe matter of the proposed national health insurance had received attention and it had been decided to make any rej»resentations that might be necessarv through the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies in order that one central body could deal with the whole question in the interests of friendly societies when giving evidence before the.Parliamentary committee. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Bro. W. R. Forsyth; vicepresident, Bro. W. G. Caddy; secretary. Bro. W. H. McCombie (re-j elected); treasurer, Bro. F. Flanagan (re-elected); trustee, Bro. E. S. Laing (re-elected); auditor, Bro. W. Kane; board of management, Bros. W. C. McCombie, W. G. Pitcher, J. T. Rutledge, E. S. Laing and J. E. Allan. A motion was carried in recognition of the services of Sister A. G. Hallam, the retiring president, and her name will be inscribed on the merit board. Sister Hallam thanked the officers and members for their loval support. Congratulations were tendered to Sister W. Culpitt upon her appointment as the lady D.D.G.M. for tne Auckland district of her society, and to Bro. H. Phillips on retiring from the secretaryship of the United Brothers' Lodge after 49 years' service. The eighth anniversary of Endeavour Lodge. No.-82, 1.0. G.T., was celebrated by a largo attendance of members and friends. The chief templar, Bro. G. R. Simpson, presided, and referred to the first minutes of the lodge. Several charter members were still on the roll and were in attendance that evening. A varied and enjoyable concert programme was contributed to by several members. A balloon race created much amusement. Supper was served by the social committee. Greetings were received from the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, Auckland District Lodge, all local lodges and temples. Special interest was attached to greetings received from Sister Vera Cannon, a former member of Endeavour Lodge, who is now a missionary sister in the Solomon Islands, but who is back on furlough in New Zealand. There was a large attendance of members at the last meeting of Myrtle Rebekah Lodge, No. 4, 1.0.0. F. Sister L. Dare, N.G., presided. An official visit was received from Sister L. Boles, L. D.D.G.M., who introduced the L.D.D.G.M. elect, Sister W. Culpitt. The N.G., on behalf of the members, congratulated Sister Culpitt upon her election to the highest position in the district. Three now members were initiated. Sister Culpitt received a beautiful bouquet, the gift of Sister Graham, who asked P.G. Sister Neumegen to make the presentation. Greetings were received and reciprocated from Sister Collins, a P.G. of the lodge, now a member of Rose of Wellington Ledge. The Druids' Hall, Newton, was crowded to its fullest capacity when the combined installation was held of the district presidents of Nos. 6 and 23 districts. Every lodge in both districts was well represented. Past Arch Bro. Caddy was the new D.P. for No. 6 district and P.A. Bro. Pavis for No. 23 district. The past grand president, Bro. T. Wilson, presided, and welcomed the visitors. The retiring D.P., Bro. Cardwell, acted as installing officer for No. 23 district, being assisted by P.D.P. Bro. Potter as installing marshal. The latter officer was then called upon to instal the D.P. for No. 6 district. An interesting feature of the evening was a number of presentations made to the retiring district presidents. Bro. Potter received his P.D.P.'s diploma and regalia, together with a jewel from the members of the district, and Bro. Cardwell also received a P.D.P.'s collar and diploma. Bro. Tom Bottcrill, P.D.P., asked Bro. Cardwell to accept from tho members of No. 23 district a beautiful silver tea service for Mrs. Cardwell in recognition of her loyalty and self-sacrifice during her husband's term of office. Bro. Cardwell responded, and Bro. Potter also thanked tho members for their gifts. At the usual meeting of the Fountain of Friendship Lodge the noble grand, Bro. C. Walker, presided. A presentation was made to tho retiring grand master, Bro. W. H. Walker, of a gold jewel and bar, P. G.'s collar and P.G.'s framed diploma. Bro. 10. Levdon spoke very highly of the services Bro. W. Walker had rendered to the lodge. It was decided to place on record the valuable services rendered by P.G. Bro H. A. Le Houx as lodge auditor for 34 years. Bro. Le Houx thanked the members for their appreciation and kind wishes. The second nomination of officers for tho annual positions was closed and a large attendanco is expected at the annual meeting next lodge night. Tho Star of Newmarket Lodge, U.A.0.J)., met in the council chambers, a largo attendance of members and visitors being presided over by tho A.D., Bro. Newall. The new district president, Bro. Pavis, paid his. first official visit and received an ovation. He was accompanied by P.D.P., Bro. Cardwell, who also had a warm welcome. The D.P. installed Bro. Todd into the vicearch bard's chair. Roskill Lodge invited tho members to their next meeting to receive the singing shield recently won by Newmarket. The Enterprise Lodge, No. 80. 1.0. G.T., was presided over by the chief templar, Sister E. Cant. One new member was initiated. At the request of the lodge deputy, the unwritten work was given by P.D.C.T., Bro. S. Harvey, who also installed Bro. S. Ardern into the chair of treasurer and Bro. E. Har» vev as marshal. Arrangements were finalised for the reopening and entertainment of the Juvenile Temple. The chief feature of the evening was the District Lodge's annual meeting report, this being given by Bro. S. Ardern, who 1 received a hearty vote of thanks^
