LARGE LANDSLIDE
THAMES COAST ROAD CLEARANCE EXPECTED TO-DAY [from our own correspondent] THAMES, Sunday A large landslide occurred at Puru Point, on the Thames Coast, about 4.30 yesterday afternoon, completely blocking the road. It also cut off Coromandel from telephone communication, but this was repaired by a gang sent from Thames.
The point has been the scene of road widening for some months, and the workmen have had to proceed carefully on account of the nature of the formation.
Giving no warning, hundreds of tons of debris fell across the road. A heavy motor-vehicle had just passed and had a verv narrow escape. Many cars were driven to the beach and passed round the point to gain the road beyond it, but the Thames County superviser, Mr. ,1. M. Adams, quickly had a gang of men on the scene and in a few hours the road was available for one way traffic.
Rock continued to fall during the night and this added to the danger of clearing the debris. It is expected that the road will be clear by Monday.
