FAREWELL TO RESIDENTS A farewell party arranged by members of St. Francis Xavier Church, Whangarei, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Smith, prior to their leaving for Auckland. The presentation of a chiming clock was made by Father Murphy. Father Mcßreen and Mr. Peter Jones also s[>oke in appreciation of the help given by Mr. and Mrs. Smith in church matters. Sister M. Collins expressed appreciation on behalf of the ladies.

A dance organised by the settlers of Waimatenui, in aid of the hall fuuds, proved to be very popular and was largely attended. Miss Amy Jackson sang and .Airs. Parrott gave a step-, dance.

Miss Mary Wigley, who for the past 18 years has resided in Whangarei, has left for Auckland en route to England. where she intends to reside.

Mrs. E. S. Calvert, Norfolk Street, is spending a holiday in Auckland and Hamilton.

M ios E. D. French, M.A., late headmistress of the Suva Girls' Grammar School, is on a visit to Whangarei. Mrs. Arthur Buckingham, who has been spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs. M. Halliday. Woodliill Road, Whangarei, has returned to Hamilton. Miss Lyna Calvert, who has been on a visit to her parents in Norfolk Street. Whangarei, has returned to Wellington.

Mrs. R. Grice, of Rawene, is on a visit to the Waikato. Mrs. Peart and family, of Okaihau, have returned from a visit to Auckland. M iss Freda Sutherland, of Auckland, is on a visit to Kaimamakn. Mrs. R. Denton. Auckland, is visiting Ahipara and is the guest of Mrs. C. Smeaton.

Miss M. Anderson, of Canterbury, who has been camping at the beach at Ahipara. has returned home.

Mrs. Wilcox and Miss A. Wilcox, of Wellington, who have been in camp at the beach near Ahipara, have returned home.

M rs. Cadman, her daughter Joyce, and Miss Kathleen McCarthy, are visiting Whananaki. Miss G. Boswell. of the Auckland Training College, is spending the school holidays with her parents at Bikurangi. The Misses Grace and Margaret Ross, of Hikurangi, are on a visit to Auckland.

Mrs. George Lawrie, of Pukekohe. is spending a holiday at Waro. and is the guest of Mrs. Dickson.
