NO SUNDAY BUSINESS

COUNTY COUNCIL REFUSAL CONFERENCE NEAR WHANG ARE I [from ottr own correspondent] "WHAXGAREI, Saturday " I hare no objection to going to the beach on a Sunday, but 1 do object to going on county business," said Mr. J. A. S. Mackav, chairman, at a meeting of the Whangarei County Council yesterday, when the clerk, Mr. H. C. Hemphill said that Sunday weekhad been suggested as the date for the conference between shack owners at Whananaki and the council concerning certain matters in dispute. Mr. Hemphill said he had received a delegation from shack owners on the foreshore reserve road, 'Whananaki, who were concerned with their insecurity of tenure. The sanitary arrangements at the beach also required attention, and the new regulations governing camping grounds were most stringent. Several matters had been held over pending a conference on the ground between the shack owners and the county representatives, and Sunday week" has been suggested as the date for the conference. Mr. F. Elliott: Members should not be asked to transact public business on a Sunday. There is no reason why the i meeting "cannot be arranged for Satur- ! day, as the men will not be working on that day. It was decided to hold the coiifcr- ; ence on the Saturday.
