HEALTH QUESTIONED

VISITOR TO AUSTRALIA LANDING AT SYDNEY DELAYED SYDNEY, Jan. 15 An Englishwoman married to an Australian, who arrived at Sydney to-day with her husband and son on the liner Ormonde, was allowed to land only after she had established the fact that she was not suffering from tuberculosis. When the ship reached Fremantle the woman was not permitted to land, but was told that her case would be reviewed when she reached Sydney. A doctor, who examined the woman yesterday, said there was no trace of tuberculosis, and later the woman was permitted to leave the ship. Th*> woman's husband was obliged to pay the specialist's fee. The Minister of the Interior, Mr. T. Paterson, when questioned in Melbourne, said he had no official knowledge of the case. When asked whether it was a general policy that no person suspected of being tubercular would be permitted to land in Australia, he replied: "We cannot permit tubercular migrants to land. We want only healthy and sound stock."

It was pointed out to Mr. Paterson that the woman was a visitor and not a migrant, but he replied that he would prefer to make 110 comment.
