COUNTRY HOTEL BURNED
OUTBREAK WEAR THAMES STRONG WIND FANS FLAMES [by telegraph—own correspondent] THAMES, Friday Fire destroyed the Kauaeranga Hotel, an old landmark, at 11 o'clock this morning. The building was an old wooden one about six miles up the valley. It wi\-» owned by the Campbell and Ehrenfried Company, Limited, and occupied by Mrs. M. K. Barker as licensee. The outbreak was discovered by Mrs. Barker, who found that a bedroom wall was blazing. A strong east wind soon fanned the fire into a conflagratioiu Mrs. Barker lost all her effects.
HOME DEMOLISHED RAPID SPREAD OF FLAMES [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday Fire at 6.30 this morning destroyed a house on the Kai Iwi Road, To Arakura, owned and occupied by Mr. G. Firth. Mrs. Firth and her daughter were in bed 'hen they head a crackling sound and found another bedroom on fire. Mr. Firth was away milking and his wife rushed out to summon him. but a strong wind took charge of the flames, which in a few minutes had enveloped the whole building. Hall an hour later nothing was left but smoking ruins. None of the contents were saved from the house.
