WET WEATHER TROUBLES

DAMPNESS IN DISTRIBUTORS During the recent wet and humid weather many Auckland motorists experienced great difficulty in starting their cars owing to dampness penetrating the distributors on their vehicles. There are many patented devices marketed to prevent this, but a most effective and simple method of accomplishing the same end, is to seal the distributor cap at the points where the high tension leads enter it. Jn a fourcylinder model, these number five. Any rubber compound or plastic substance, not containing oil or other chemicals injurious to rubber, may be used for the purpose. A common practice is to put a piece of rubber tubing over tho whole cap, tying it above the leads, but in humid weather this tends to cause condensation and, often as not. trouble is again experienced with dampness. On motor-cycles where it is imperative to have the high tension leads effectively sealed against water, tho distributor being situated near to the ground, plasticine or some rubber compound has been found entirely satisfactory.
