The Rock Garden

The thymes are among the most delightful and useful plants for the rock garden and the creeping kinds form the basis of that most valuable of all rock garden developments of modern times, the alpine lawn. They are also most valuable for planting in the crevices of paved paths. The (Jreek honey so famous for its wonderful flavour owes its distinction to the wild thyme of the Greek hills. Only one hybrid thyme is 011 record as a result of deliberate cross breeding; This is called Nosegay. It has a distinct fragrance and is a valuable acquisition for the rock garden. An orange-scented thyme, a variety of Thyme vulgaris, is mentioned in old garden works, but does not seem to be in cultivation at the present time. Plants may exist in some old garden and its re-discoverv would be most desirable.
