"A TERRIBLE LETTER"

Extracts from a letter wore read at the Devon Assizes recently when George William Smith, aged 27, was sentenced to 20 months' hard labour for demanding £lO with menaces.

It was explained for the prosecution that Smith was employed at Torquay from November, 11>«34, until June last year.

On June 23 he wrote the letter complained of to his employer, passages from which ran:—
