rRESIDENTIAL IiTCOEFTION SCIENCE CONGRESS VISITORS ENTERTAINMENT AT MUSEUM The lofty halls of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, with its wide stuiicases and classical pillars, were brilliantly lit last evening when Sir David Rivett, president of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement 'of Science, hold a reception in honour of the delegates, members and visitors to the Scienco Congress. Through halls featuring Maori war canoes, dainty Dresden figures, old Chinese jades, and the brilliant plumage of a multitude of birds, the many-lined evening gowns passed# in a, brilliant pageant.

Before the picturesque entrance to the carved Maori meeting house, Ilotunni, two Maori women and a little Maori girl in native dress demonstrated the making of baskets from green flax, the making of Maori mats, and the preparation of the flax for the making of the graceful piu pius, or Maori skirts. In the library on the top floor of the museum the guests were entertained by films of natural history. The newly-opened exhibition of Chinese art also attracted a large number of tlio visitors. Supper Hall Decorations The supper hall was arranged with a lonrr central table flanked by several smaller ones, the main tablo featuring a huge bowl banked with mauvo and pink hydrangeas, above which sprayed deep mauve lupins, hydrangeas and deep pink phlox and dahlias mingled with mauvo thalictrum. Smaller bowls and vases of carnations, phlox and lupins in deep tones of mauvo and pink decorated the tables at intervals. An attractive musical programme was presented bv the Embassy Trio.

The guests were received at the entrance to the Maori Hall by Sir David Rivett and Lady Rivett, who wore a gown of black panne velvet trimmed with a narrow band of ermine at the neck and a short black velvet cape finished with tails of white and black ermine. Lady Robertson, convener of the committee in chargo of the arrangements, wore powder pink sotiple satin. The committee comprised Lady Leys, who wore petunia red crepe georgette; Mrs. Gilbei't Arehev, black flat crepe and silver lame; Mrs. F. C. Mappin, bronze beaded georgette; Mrs. W. A.
