OHOPE BEACH CONTROL
BOROUGH CRITICISES COUNTY FUTURE DEVELOPMENT [by' telegraph—OWN correspondent] "WHAKATANE, Friday The more efficient control of Ohope ■was a question raised at the monthly meeting of the Wliakatano Borough Council.. Mr. A. J. Canning pointed out that the camping ground and sani- * tation required more attention. There were now 150 residents at Obope and while the county was collecting the rates the borough had spent £4OO of its own funds on the place. So far the county council had not done much for'what was certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand. He considered that the borough should have control: I The Mayor, Mr. W. Sullivan, said .ithat, money had been raised in the | town' to purchase the reserve and the <: county had added half by way of subsidy. A definite scheme of development should be adopted, as there was enor;<nious scope. A resolution was passed that the t county council be asked to take over "the control as a county matter and I not as a riding charge.
