Sir. —One sympathises with "E.M." in his complaint that our children's Courts are not yet equipped with child guidance clinics, except in on? or two centres. What shall be said, then, of a country which has not yet instituted child guidance clinics for the mass of its children? While supporting the plea for clinics in connection with small offenders, at least 50 per cent of the "offences" that reach our children's Courts might be prevented altogether by correct psychological attention to our schoolchildren. When New Zealanders wake up to what is being done in connection with this science in other countries they will insist upon its fuller use in the prevention of criminals; and they will ensure its application not only in the children's Courts, but also at a far earlier stage in the schoolroom.
