MINISTER DUE TO-DAY

MESSAGE SENT TO THE MEN

anxiety in waikato grows

The stay-in tactics of the freezing works employees at Southdown, Westfield, Horotiu and King's Wharf continued throughout yesterday, and the men remained in possession of the works last night.

Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P., addressed the workers at Southdown and Westfield during the day, and urged them to resume normal operations, but there was no change in their attitude. The Minister of Labour, Hon, H. T. Armstrong.,, will arrive in Auckland this morning by train from Wellington, and will then deal personally with the matter. In a striking message to the employees as a prelude to to-day s proceedings Mr. Armstrong warns them that the Government is of the opinion that in this small country there is room for one Government only, and if they have decided upon a showdown the Government might not be long in deciding just who was to govern.

In the meanwhile the anxiety of the farmers in the Waikato is increasing, stock for slaughtering is rapidly accumulating, and the shipment of produce for overseas is dislocated.
