MOUNTAINEERS CUT OFF
AVALANCHES IN GERMANY RESCUE ATTEMPT FAILS BERLIN, Jan. 5 Two young mountaineers who have been stranded since January 1 on a small ledge 3000 feet above the Koenigsee, overlooking Herr Hitler's retreat at Berchtesgaden, are cut off by avalanches and fears are held for their death by starvation or freezing. Would-be rescuers could not approach the men, but airmen succeeded in dropping food and blankets. They observed that the stranded men were completely exhausted.
