MRS. SIMPSON

ARTICLES RESENTED PERSONAL REFERENCES ALLEGED MIS-STATEMENTS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 6, 6.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 5 Breaking her silence, Mrs. Simpson has issued to journalists at Cannes a protest against a series of articles published in various newspapers throughout the world under the name of New bold Noves, editor of the Washington Evening Star, who styled himself her cousin. Mrs. Simpson denies that Noyes is her cousin. She states that after a conversation she authorised him to publish her " portrait in words." Her object, said Mrs. Simpson, was to rectify many fantastic reports concorning her personally, but she noted with amazement that the actual articles far exceeded that scope. "Noves was received at dinner by ex-King Edward," said Mrs. Simpson, "but the conversation was solely general and did not take a confidential turn, as suggested in the articles." Mrs. Simpson has retained a famous Parisian attorney to protect her interests. Another echo of the ex-King's abdication is a statement issued by the firm of George Boutledge, London publishers, in which Sir Godfrey Thomas, formerly private secretary to the exKing, denies a statement in a newly published book, "Abdication of Edward VIII.," by J. Lincoln White, that Sir Godfrey interviewed Mr. William Randolph Hearst at Mr. Hearst's English home. Sir Godfrey states that he never met Mr. Hearst. EX-KING AT CHURCH NO FURTHER CRITICISM PRIMATE AND COLLEAGUES VIENNA, Dec. 28 It is suggested that the first public appearance of the Duke of Windsor, when he read the Lesson at the Christmas service at the English Church at Vienna, may result in a "gentlemen's agreement" between him and bishops of the Church of England. It is noted that the Duke was accompanied by the British Ambassador, Sir Walford Selby. No further criticism of the Duke is expected to come from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Cosmo Lang, or his colleagues.
