BETTING AT ELLERSLIE
Sir, —It is beyond comprehension to patrons of the Auckland Racing Club as to tho reason why the committee keeps to the single pool, or first and second dividend, regardless of the number of horses in the race. I contend they should study the interest of those who prefer win and place, or the win and second, and also place betting when the number of starters warrants it. By the institution of such a system everyone would he catered for and'satisfied. 1 feel sure it would add considerably to the welfare of the club and bring satisfaction to patrons who consider place betting far more sporty than the single pool svstem, because they only attend for tlie pleasure of the outing, and have a few shillings on the result with three chances for their investments. SrouTY. [The win and place system of betting was used at Ellerslie for the Autumn June and -lulv meetings in the season, and also for the Spring and Summer meetings m the iy..J<J-.J4 season The club then reverted to the single pool svstem of betting, paying two dividends in the proportion of to and 25 per cent in the event of the numbers allotted to the horses on the totalisator exceeding four.
