MAINLY FINE AT FIRST RAIN EXPECTED SHORTLY The wealher report and forecast for Now Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows:- —An anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers New Zealand and an area to the eastward. .V rather more intense anti-cyclono is located over south-eastern Australia, and between these is a depression of considerable activity. Indications are for light to moderate north-easterly winds, freshening gradually, especially in and south ol Cook Strait, and tending more northerly, changing to southerlies b.v morning in the southern half of tho South Island. Seas in New Zealand waters, slight to moderate, but rising later south of Capo Egniont. Eastern Tasmaii Sea: Light to moderate, north-east to northerly winds, freshening somewhat, and a southerly change advancing from the west during tho next 21 hours. The weather is likely to he cloudy, warm and sultry, but otherwise mainly fine at iirst, rain developing shortly, however, in tho northern and western districts, and becoming fairly general within 2-1 hours, with a cool change to-morrow in tho southern half of tho South Island. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CLOUDY, WARM AND SULTRY The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkuald last evening the following special forecast for. the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate northeast to northerly winds, freshening somewhat. The weather is likely to be cloudy, warm and sultry, and rain developing. Seas slight to moderate. WEEK-END WEATHER Auckland.—Fine, warm weather prevailed in Auckland on Saturday. There was a light northerly wind which changed to the south in the late afternoon. The wind changed again to the north-east yesterday morning and the sky became overcast, with light rain. It cleared about mid-day and tho afternoon was warm. The barometer was fairly steady during the two days. Barometer, midnight, steady . . 30.20 in. Midnight, Saturday , . . 30.20 in. Wellington.—lt was overcast and misty on Saturday niorning at times, but otherwise fair to fine, with a pleasant temperature. A fresh northerly breeze blew in the morning, but died away in the afternoon. Jt was fine, warm and sultry yesterday, and in the afternoon it became overcast. The winds were very light, south-easterlies prevailing until 3.a0 o'clock, when there was a change to the northj. The minimum temperature on Friday night was 56.9 degrees and the maximum oil Saturday 67.5 degrees. The maximum yesterday was 71.2 degrees.

Cbristchurch. —Tho weather was mainly unpleasant at the week-end. Saturday niorning was overcast but warm, but later there was a very cold, strong easterly wind. It was again cold and overcast yesterday. Tho barometer fell to 30.1 m.

Dunedin. —Bright summer weather prevailed on Saturday, the sun shining brilliantly until well into the afternoon. There was a fresh south-westerly breeze in the earlier part of the morning, but this gradually died away and swung round to the north-east, remaining light for the remainder of the day. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees. It was again bright and fine yesterday, although a strong north-easterly breeze kept the temperature down. The maximum was G8 degrees.
