FIRE AT ROTORUA
COAL AND FIREWOOD DEPOT OTHER PROPERTY ENDANGERED [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Thursday An outbreak of firo shortly before four o'clock this morning gutted a coal and firewood depot, owned by Mr. A. G. Cottrell, in the railway station yard and for ft timo endangered the neighbouring plantation of trees, the Waikato Dairy Company's depot and the railway sheds. The fire was first noticed by two men who were, proceeding to their homes and who gave the alarm to the brigade. The fire was then blazing fiercely. Tho brigade quickly ran out a length of hose for a distance of about 200 yards across the plantation and confined the outbreak to the coal depot building itself. However, it was impossible for the brigade to save the building and when the flames were suppressed only the shell remained. The building and contents wero not insured.
