SCHEME FOR TRANSFERENCE

British "Wireless RUGBY, Dec. 20 A new scheme for the transfer of elderly unemployed with families of adolescents from the special areas in Britain to the vicinity of industrial areas in the Midlands and Southern England, where there are better prospects of work, has been approved bv tlie special commissioner. Jn conjunction with the Land Settlement Association, as an initial step, 2">o cottage homesteads, each consisting of a single detached house and half an acre of land, will be made available for the families transferred at rentals of about 10s 6d a. week. The scheme will be financed out of the special areas fund and the immediate cost will be about £125,000. The association will train the occupiers in the proper use of the land and will supervise their work. It is hoped that the younger members of the families will find work in the neighbourhood.
