HOCKEY PLAYERS RETURN

EXPERIENCES ABROAD Two members of the Australian ladies' hockey team which has been touring the United States, Miss M. Taylor and Miss JO. Cashmere, arrived at Auckland yesterday by the Niagara. The remainder of the team returned to Australia by the Makura. Since passing through Auckland en route to tho United States the travellers have been extremely busy. On the tour 1!) matches were played, the Australian team being beaten only three times. The only matches lost were at the international tourney at Philadelphia when England, which was unbeaten, South Africa and the United States, proved too strong. Other countries represented were Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. It was hoped that the next international tourney would be held in Australia in 1912. The tournament was held every three years, the next meeting being 111 Fngland in HMD. Both players said the experience gained abroad in such big matches had proved invaluable to every member of the team besides providing the opportunity for plavers to form contacts and friendships that had taught them a great deal about the different places they visited If New Zealand could find itself 111 a position to send a representative team to tho gathering, most of the British Dominions would then be represented.
