PIGEON AS MASCOT
STEAMER CREW'S PET BIRD ALIGHTS ON DECK [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPOND «;] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday The pet and mascot of the steamer W aipahi is a homer pigeon which alighted on the vessel during her crossing of Cook Strait last week. Welcome hospitality has been extended to the bird by Captain C. Burgess and the crew. The Waipahi was bound from New Plymouth to Dunedin when the bird alighted on the vessel's deck. The pigeon appeared to be tired, and it was fed and provided with water. Although it leaves the ship, it returns again, and is not caged except at night.
