ONEHUNGA INTERESTS

£9OOO DRAINAGE LOAN ROYAL OAK MONUMENT The Onehunga Borough Council last night decided by special order to borrow £9OOO for the purpose of providing drainage in Angle and Patrick Streets, and also for additions to stormwater overflows in Captain Springs Road, Neilson, Mill and Albert Streets, in compliance with requisitions made by the Board of Health under section 22 of the Health Act, 1920. For the purpose of providing interest, sinking fund and other charges, the council levied a special rate of 3-10 d in the pound upon the rateable property in the borough. The currency of the loan is 15 years and the rato of interest was fixed at 3J per cent. No poll of ratepayers will be taken, as the work has been ordered by the Board of Health. In seconding the motion for the striking of a special rate, Mr. A. A. Coates, deputy-mayor, mentioned that the Mayor, Mr. J. Park, was entitled to the thanks of the ratepayers for having secured the money at such a low rate of interest. The urban farm lauds list was revised lor presentation to the Assessment Court in accordance with the ruling recently issued by 1 the president of the Court. The proposal to remove the Seddon memorial and tram shelter at Royal Oak received a setback when the Mount Roskill Road Board wrote declining to contribute a one-third share of the cost and suggesting that the Auckland Transport Board should be communicated with as being the party chiefly concerned in the provision of a tram shelter. A further objection to the removal of the monument was lodged by the owner of the propcrty in front of which it was proposed to re-erect, it. As the outcome of a discussion, the council decided to take no further action in the matter.
