CHANGE APPROACHING HEAVY RAIN PROBABLE The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A shallow depression is'crossing the South Island, while a rather intense one is at present centred between Cape Maria Van Diemen and Norfolk Island. An anti-cyclone covers Australia and extends on to the vest* ern Tasman Sea. Indications are for southerly winds in the far south, otherwise north-easterlies or easterlies prsvailing, moderate, mainly at iirst, but increasing to gale force at places in the far north. A general change to freshening southerlies is probable shortly. Seas rough north of Kast Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising south of East Capo and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. In the Eastern Tasman. Sea moderate to strong southerly winds, of gale force in parts of the. northern portion; seas rather rough to rough. Weather dourly to overcast, witli. mist or fog in places and rain in most districts. Heavy falls are probable in, northern and north-eastern portions oi; the North Island, with some flooding,, Temperatures mild to warm, but be., coming cooler to-morrow, especially in, the south, SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST STORMY WITH GENERAL RAIN The Government meteorologist issuect to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province.—Moderate to strong north', easterly to easterly winds, rising in places to gale force, and veering to southerlies to-morrow. The weather in likely to be dull, misty and stormy, with general rain and some heavy falls, and flooding is possible. Seas rough on the east coast and moderate but later rising on the west. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was a continuation of fine weather yesterday, but thi conditions at times were cloudy and unsettled. The wind was moderate north-east.. The temperaturo was very warm, the thermometer recording 70 degrees at 4 p.m. After falling slowly since Saturday the barometer was steady at 29.70 in. during yesterday, afternoon and evening. Barometer, midnight, steady .. SO.TSIKi. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 28.801fi. Wellington. —It was warm and pleasant, although cloudy and hazy most of the day. A light to moderate north-west wind prevailed. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees. Christchurch. —The day was fine but cloudy, with a fresh north-nonh-east breeze in the morning, changing to an easterly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 71 degrees. Th.o. barometer was steady at 29.60 in, Dunedin.—'The sky was dull and overcast, with a falling barometer. The temperature rose to 67 decrees. There was a heavy mist about the hills lant night.
