ENGLISH AIR MAIL
AUSTRALIAN ATTITUDE ASTONISHMENT IN LONDON LONDON, Nov. 15 In British air circles there is astonishment at the Australian demands concerning the Australia-London air mail. It is said that not only the spirit but also the phraseology of the official announcement on the matter is unfortunate and liable to retard the completion of an agreement. Experts are puzzled, it is stated, to understand the meaning of Australia's demand for "complete and effective control of the Singapore-Sydney leg of the air mail route."
They consider that the British offer, to place a certain number of Empire flying-boats under Australian ownership, and also to allow the SingaporeSydney leg of the route to be operated exclusively by Australian crews, would give the most complete control. It is emphasised that too much has been made of the recent late arrival of the mails at Singapore, the delays, it is stated, having been due, firstly, to the alteration of the Paris-Brindisi train schedule, and in the second place to the loss of two flying-boats. That joss, it is pointed out, will be rectified within a week, when the second Empire flying boat, the Centauries, joins the Canopus in the Mediterranean .
