KENT CRICKET CLUB
FREEMAN NOT RE-ENGAGED ARTICLE ON GAME RECALLED (Receded November 21. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 'JO The Kent County Cricket Club decided to-day not to re-engage A. P. Freeman for the 1937 season. In view of his "exceptional services" the club is granting him £250 and his wages will be continued until next summer. The club states that it wishes to give younger players a chance.
"The news has come to me like a bombshell," said Freeman. "I have no intention of retiring yet."
A newspaper article bv Freeman on August 26. reviewing a benefit match between Kent and Essex, caused a sensation when obvious reference was made to the bowling of Fames. The article stated: "It is not often that professional cricketers complain, but the bowling of a certain Essex amateur is, in our opinion, definitely unfair. Watt and Fagg were hit. Five balls out of six were pitched less than halfway down the pitch. After that one views the coming trip to Australia with not a little apprehension." The allegations were denied by the secretary of the Essex club, wjio stated that coming at such a time Freeman's criticism was scandalous and disgraceful.
