OBITUARY
MR. ALEXANDER GEDDES Arts and crafts circles in Auckland have suffered severely in the death of Mr. Alexander Geddes, at the age of 4.3. Mr. Geddes had spent many years in the encouragement of the arts, and only recently received a token in green jade from the director of the Oriental exhibition held recently at Burlington House, London. Mr. Geddes was an early member of the anthropological section of the Auckland Institute and Museum, founded in 1023. Ho was several times on the committee, and in 19134 was chairman. He was keenly interested in Maori and Polynesian arts and crafts, and took special interest in field work. Mr. Geddes was a former president of the Auckland Society of Arts, the Auckland lOx Libris Society and the St. Andrew's Society. He was a director of the firm of Brown, Barrett, Limited. Mr. Geddes, who was tho son of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. McKail Geddes, is survived by his wife and ono son. MR. H. W. REID [by TKLECHAFH —riIF.SS association] DUNEDIX, Wednesday The death occurred this morning of Mr. Henry William Reid, aged 74, a member of the well-known firm of John Reid and Sons, Limited. Mr. Reid qualified as a surveyor and civil engineer early in lilo, and was concerned in some big surveys in Otago, Canterbury and Wcstlaiul. Ho was also engaged in the survey and laying of the thrco cable tramlines in Duncdin. Subsequently he joined his father's firm. Mr. Reid was a wellknown figure in the Duncdin Stock Exchange, which adjourned this morning in respect to bis memory. He was a keen bowler, and was a member of the first New Zealand team to visit Australia in 190(3. Mr. Reid is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
