SUMMER FLOWER SHOW
EVENT AT TAKAPUNA The summer flower show of the Takapuna and District Horticultural Society was held in the Parish Hall, Takapuna. yesterday. In the absence of the member of Parliament for Waitemata, Mr. W. J. Lyon, the show was officially opened by Dr. J. Garfield Stewart (patron), who was introduced by the president, Dr. C. W. Parr. In a short address, Dr. Parr expressed pleasure at the growth of the society, which, from a membership of 60 in June, had reached the present roll of 156 members. The show comprised 190 entries in the ."33 clnsses. The judges were Mr. Thornton and Mr. W. J. Cutler in the competitive classes and Miss N. E. Bostock in the decorative classes. Mrs. G. Nicks' "Lemon Pillar" was the best rose of the show. Considering the lateness of the rose season the quality of the blooms was outstanding. Afternoon tea was served by the convener. Mrs. G. Winstone. who was assisted bv- Mrs. A. E. Baldock, Mrs. .T. C. Lewis. Mrs. E. Cumming, Mrs. C. T. Royston, Miss Janie Winstone, Miss P. Lewin and Miss B. Dicker.
