AUSTRALIA'S CHANCES JACK CRAWFORD CONFIDENT [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, Nov. 13 Jack Crawford, Australia's famous Davis Cup player, is confident that Australia will win tho cup next year. Writing in a Sydney newspaper, he says: "With l''red Perry a professional, Australia in 1937 will have her greatest chance for many vears to win the Davis Cup. Perry's absence will weaken the, British team so greatly that it could not be given more than an outside chance of retaining tho trophy against cither Australia or the United States. Germany, of course, will still he a serious contender, but somehow (iocs not seem as strong as she was. Since his Wimbledon injury von Cramm has lost confidence, and L know it has been giving him a lot of trouble. "f still believe Australia should challenge in the American zone, and, after our tennis season here, our possible cup players should go into serious training, so that 110 stone will bo unturned in our endeavour to beat the strong American team. Quist and McGrath, both of whom lave years of big tennis ahead of them, are practically certain to be available for selection. 1 think my own form will be good, and, if so, 1 will definitely be prepared to make one more trip in quest of the cup. "Perry's decision to turn professional is very wise. It would have been foolish to turn down such big cash oilers as he has received from Tilden, O'Brien and company. After all he has won every amateur championship of importance, and has 110 new fields to conquer. Furthermore, he would be taking a big chance by continuing as an amateur for another season, as J. D. Biidjxe now appears to bo at least his equal, and may bo his master in another 12 months."
