Savage, rector of one of the oldest churches in London, St. Bartholomew the Great, is a passenger from London by the Rangitata, which is duo at Auckland this morning. Dr. J. H. Wood, who is in iempornrv charge of the physio-therapv department at the Auckland Hospital, haj been granted six months' leave of absence to visit England. Sir Edward. Harding, , Permanent Under-Secretary of State in the Dominions Office, who has been touring New Zealand, will leave Wellington for Sydney by the Wanganella to-morrow. Mr. S. J. Laiiiorna Birch, R.A., an English artist whose work is represented in the National Art Gallery in Wellington, will arrive at Auckland bv the Rangitata from London to-day on a short visit. Major-General Sir John Davidson, a director of the Union Bank of Ai;s-* tralia, is due at Sydney on December '6 by the Otranto from London on his way to New Zealand for a short visit. He is accompanied by Lady Davidson. The Hon. J. W. Downie, a delegate from the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Southern Rhodesia, to the recent congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire, left by the Awatea for Sydney yesterday afternoon. Mr. Douglas P. Lee. elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy G. Lee, of Remuera. has been promoted to the rank of flight-lieutenant in the Roval Air Force, according to advice which has been received by his parents. FlightLieutenant Lee is at present stationed at Hinaidi, Irak. Mr. G. E. Turney, assistant-district public trustee at* Invercargill for the last eight years, has been transferred to Wellington as third district public trustee. His successor at Invercargill will be Mr. T. J. Dwyer, at present second assistant district public trustee in Christchurch. Mr. J. Brown, manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Ageaw Company, Limited, at Te Puke, Till retire on December- 31, after over 29 vears' service with tho company. He will be succeeded by Mr. L. A. Sisam, now agent at Whakatane, who has been appointed acting-manager for the Bav of Plenty as from January 1.
