SIEGE AT BARRACKS
regimental band boys HOSED BY FIRE BRIGADE (Received November 10. 6.10 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. in | Sixteen hand boys of the Leicestershire Regiment, recruited from an Knglish Catholic orphanage, barricaded themselves in a room at their barracks at Londonderry on Saturday as a protest against the conditions of service. I'llav declined to answer the roll-call on Sunday, and when they refused to surrender, a military fire brigade played hoses on the boys through the windows. The boys replied with a fusillade of cups and other articles, knocking a fireman from a windowsill. Then the beds and furniture were found to be ablaze, calling for further activity on the part of the fire brigade. The bovs ultimately walked out when the commandant of the battalion promised to make an investigation into their complaints.
