NATIONAL DAY
AUSTRIAN ANNIVERSARY AFTERNOON RECEPTION HELD The Austrian National Day was celebrated yesterday by a delightful afternoon reception given in the Milne and Choyce Reception Hall by Mr. 0. J. Thedens, Austrian Trade Commissioner, and Mrs. Thedens, the guests including members of tho Consular Corps, representatives of the foreign clubs, Austrian residents in Auckland and local officials. In welcoming tho guests, Mr. Thedens expressed appreciation of their presence to honour his country's National Day. Ho also took tho opportunity to bid farewell to Mr. H. L. E. Pricstman, assistant Canadian Trade Commissioner, and Mrs. Pricstman, who aro leaving shortly to reside in Sydney. Mrs. Thedens was wearing a graceful frock of navy blue wool georgette relieved with deep cream and a navy and white hat. Tho room was charmingly arranged with groups of comfortablo chairs and couches, which provided a delightful air of informality to the gathering. Tho floral decorations were outstanding, the static being arranged with tall sheaves of Canadian corn as a compliment to Mr. and Mrs Pricstman, while poppies in brilliant red and white, Austria's national colours, and baskets of corn decorated the small tables. Items by a string orchestra stationed on the stage added to tho afternoon's enjoyment. Among those who accepted invitations were: —The Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis, Lady Richardson, Mrs. A. M.
