FINE CRICKETER

THE LATE B. J. T. BOSANQUET ABILITY TO WIN MATCHES The following interesting reference to the late B. J. T. Bosanquet. former English cricketer, was written by "Not Out" in the Sydney Referee:— Bernard Jiames Tiridal Bosanquet passed away early, his age being 59. Among Englishmen he stood by hintself as a bosev bowler, that is, of those seen in Australia. On his dkr he was the most dangerous of all bowlers of his type. He was a true bosej. When England won the rubber by three matches to two in Australia in 1903-4. Bosanquet's bowling played its part. In the fourth match in Sydney, his six for 51 in the second inninps was a match-winner. On a good wicket he was deadly against New South Wales that year, taking six for 4-5 in one innings. He could tufn a game in a few overs. Bosanquet could have bad moments, too. With Lord Hawke's Anglo-New Zealand team in Sidney in 1903, South Wales had six down for 175 in the second innings and looked badly beaten. Here R. A. Duff, who had gone in first with Victor Trumper, was joined by A. J. Hopkins. Bosanquet had taken five of those first six wieI kets and had thfem in a knot. However. the two North Sydney men went for him. On his day Hopkins was a glittering batsman. Ibis day he glittered to draw in line with Duff. They whipped up 236 for the seventh wicket, in next to no time. Duff 194, and Hopkins 133. Bosanquet wound up with six for 153. Dr. Herbert Hordern. the greatest of Australian bosey bowlers, was never collared in this way; he kept his length. But, apart from Horden, Bos- ! a liquet was the best bowler of his ! type one ever saw. He was a fine j punishing right-hand batsman, and a I very interesting man.
