A siight easing in building activity during August and September is indicated in the latest report of the Government Statistician. Figures still compare favourably with this period of last year, however. The value of permits issued in the larger towns during September was £4-40,237, a decrease of !).() per cent oil the August total, but 5.8 per cent, above the figure lor September, 1935. There were 27,' i permits for houses, a decrease ot 46 on August, but seven more than in the previous September,
