EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY

MR. JOSEPH CATCHPOLE LONG AND ACTIVE CAREER Surrounded by many tangible memories of a particularly active and successful business career, Mr. Joseph Catchpole is enjoying life to the full in his B.sth year fit his home in St. Mary's Bay !Road, Auckland. Mr. Catchpole's name will always be associated with Pukemiro Collieries, Limited, for he was chairman, of directors of the company .for 22 years. Born at Torquay, England, Mr. Catchpole came to the Dominion when he was very young in the sailing ship Ballochmyle. For . many years Mr. Catchpole - conducted a furnishing warehouse in Karangahape Road. Ho then joined Pukemiro Collieries, Limited. He also was chairman of directors of the Pukemiro Land Company for 25 years, but retired from this position when he left the colliery company some four years ago. Mr. Catchpole has been prominently associated with the Masonic Lodge for 40 years. Ho was at one time senior crand warden of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. He also is one of the oldest members of the Druids in Auckland. He was first initiated as a Druid in 1881. lie was appointed a justice of the peace in 1899.. "1 have plenty of private interests to occupy my time.'' hp said, pointing to a pile of letters which he had completed. A party which included his family, seven grandchildren and two grcat-grand-ehililren ..was held to celebrate Mr. Catchpole's birthday last week.
