PUBLIC ORDER BILL
PRINCIPAL PROVISIONS BAN ON UNIFORMS LONDON, Nov. 10 Penalties ranging from £IOO, or six months' imprisonment, or both, to £SOO or two years' imprisonment, or both, are provided in the Public Order Bill for breaches of the measure. The provisions will apply to anyone found guilty of wearing in a public place or meeting uniforms signifying association with any political organisation, or with the promotion of any political object; also to anyone guilty of controlling an association organised to usurp the authority of the Crown or to promote any political object by a display of force. Other clauses empower the police and councils to ban processions and to investigate associations. It is left to the Courts to define the meaning of the word "uniforms." The bill applies to Scotland, but not to Northern Ireland. It is hoped that it will be law by Christmas.
