WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION
MEETING AT BIRKENHEAD The ambition of women to be represented by their own sex in the public life of the Dominion was voiced at the concluding gathering for the year of the Birkenhead Women's Association. The president, Mrs. G. Mills, the letiring Mayoress, cordially welcomed the Mayor-elect, Mr. E. J. Osborne, and Mrs. Osborne. She also congratulated Mrs W B. Darlow, the other candidate for'the 'mayoralty, 011 her campaign. Mrs. Darlow, who was received with applause, said she realised the up-hill light it was for a woman to undertake such a contest. Not only had she to light the male prejudice, but also the conservatism of many women who were not ready to see women occupy such However, she hod enjoyed the campaign, and congratulated Mr. Osborne on his success. Miss Ellen Melville, president of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women, and a incni )^ r the Auckland City Council, added liei congratulations to Mrs. Dai low.
