PARK AT WAIUKU
CHANGE OF CONTROL DOMAIN BOARD'S DESIRE [from OCR OWN- correspondent] V>AIUKTJ, Wednesday The voluntary relinquishment of j+.* trust is being sought by the Massev Park Domain Board, although it has the park in very presentable order and it very comfortably placed in regard to .finance, there being a credit balance of £4O in hand. The board has come to the conclusion that the control of the area would be better vested in the Waiuku Town Board, which has the staff to carry out maintenance and all other work efficiently and economically. Intimation to this effect has been conveyed to the Town Board, which has now decided to accept control. Application is to be made for the necessary Order-in-Council to give effect to the transfer. Tfao park is well known to visitors to Waiuku, being just across the road from the railway station. It has a ground on which football and hockey are played, and a cricket pitch. Some 40 years ago the Domain Board came into existence. The domain embraced land which was afterward taken for railway purposes and as compensation tho late Kt. Hon. W. F. Massey saw to it that an area adjoining the remaining portion, on the far side from the railway, was acquired and added to the reduced acreage. This led to the name Massey Park being given. The Town Board has come into being only in comparatively recent years, the Domain Board being the older body. i • r.;v ; . The present chairman of the Domain Board, Mr. A. M. Barriball, is the only one of the original members remaining. The other members are Dr« C. E. fifowden and Messrs. C. IJmsly* i , W. Hosking, F. Knight and J. Heis*
