POSSESSION OF SHIELD
BRASS BANDS' CONTEST EXPLANATION OF POSITION The suggestion that the Hawko Shield, for the C grade championship at the recent Whangarei band contest, had been won, not by the Mount Eden Boys' Band, but by the Te Awamutu Municipal Band, has been explained and refuted by the secretary of the Auckland Provincial Brass Bands' Association, Mr. W. E. Jameson. The Hawko Shield, says Mr. Jameson, was presented for the band with the highest aggregate points in a test selection and in military drill. The Mount Eden Boys' Band had been awarded a total of .>12,1 points, and the Te Awamutu band 5302, but for music alone To Awamutu had gained higher points. For this it was awarded the Francis Shield, the Hawke Shield rightfully being won by tho Mount Eden Boys' Band.
