FOOTBALL RIVALRY
RUGBY AND LEAGUE CODES POSITION IN KING COUNTRY [by TELEGRAPH —own correspondent] TE KUITI, Tuesday Contending that there was no room for two codes in country districts, Mr. G. -Joseph said at the Waitete Rugby Football Club's smoko concert that followers of football in the Maniapoto Sub-Union must fight League, which was trying to obtain a foothold. In Taumarunui there were live League teams, and attempts had been made to get League started in Otorohanga. Mr. l'\ lnvin, of the Otorohanga Rugby Sub-Union, said that League would never get a footing thero. League supporters had tried for three Saturdays to stage a game, but were unsuccessful. .Ono of the main reasons why League could secure adherents was that Rugby in the King Country finished too early. If the busy season on tho farms prevented the country clubs from fielding teams lato in the season, why should not tho town teams at the end of their ordinary competitions get together and keep tho game going. League was established at Taumarunui because it came when thn competitions were finished, but thu players still wanted a game.
