CENTRALISATION URGED LARGER ZDUCATIONAL GROUPS [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WHAKATANE, Tuesday Settlers of the Rangitaiki Plains have discussed the question of school consolidation, which was brought up at a meeting held by the local branch of the Farmers' Union. An effort is being made to have the Government move progressively toward the complete centralisation of educational work in countrv districts.

Mr. Harrison, former headmaster of the Belmont School, spoke on the chief advantages of the consolidation of smaller schools, particularly the ones in sole charge, into larger educational groups under the complete supervision of highly-graded headmasters. He claimed that it was impossible for any' teacher, however efficient, to achieve satisfactory results with several classes under his charge. A committee was set up consisting of Messrs. E. Hatiltain, E. Lambert, A. McLean, T. Jamieson, R. Dunning, and I. B. Gow, with instructions to arrange a conference between the various school committees.
