PRISON FOR MOTORIST
CHARGE OF INTOXICATION DRIVING WITHOUT LICENCE [Br TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Wednesday Sentence of five weeks' imprisonment and a line of £lO was imposed by Mr. J. Miller, S.M., on John Franklin in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when lie was oharged with being intoxicated in charge of a car, and with driving without a licence. He was also disqualified from holding a licence for three years. Accused Mas fined £ls last week on i similar charge, and was warned by the magistrate that in future the Court would have to consider sending such offenders to gaol. Four hours later accused was again arrested for a similar offence.

Accused's, car capsized down a bank near Seddon. Accused was fined £ls and disqualified from holding a licence for three . years. The magistrate said he took into account accused's previous good , character and the fact that he suffered considerable injury when the car 1 capsized. "These cases appear to be on the < increase, in spite of what the magistrates are saying," said the magistrate. "It must be assumed in these cases from now on that imprisonment may be imposed,"
